Plastic Oceans International, a nonprofit organisation working to end global plastic pollution, have announced the release of its fabulous new film, Earth\u2019s Ekko,<\/i> a 20-minute educational tool with a truly international approach, featuring messages from children from around the world. The film has been created for educators and parents to engage, inspire and teach those aged 10 and younger, to be part of the solution to the global plastic pollution problem.<\/p>\n

A corresponding\u00a0Earth\u2019s Ekko<\/i>\u00a0Education Guide will also be available.<\/p>\n

\u201cChildren are natural problem solvers, and we recognized the need for a tool with optimistic messages to teach and engage kids on our planet\u2019s plastic waste problem,\u201d said\u00a0Julie Andersen, Global Executive Director, Plastic Oceans International. \u201cEarth\u2019s Ekko<\/i> fills a void. Very few, if any, plastic pollution films address such a young audience in a positive engaging way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film features Ekko, an ocean-dwelling animated character whose species is one of Earth\u2019s oldest-living organisms. With his home being recently disrupted by a human-made material, plastic, he goes on an adventure with three young human friends to learn about the problem and solutions to protect Earth.<\/p>\n

Earth\u2019s Ekko<\/i>\u2019s tone and constructive messages teach kids to address plastic waste, catering to their creative, open-minded, thoughtful tendencies. Film characters learn the importance of following the three Rs - refuse, reuse and recycle:<\/p>\n

  • Refuse<\/b>\u00a0to use single-use plastic products.<\/li>\n
  • Reuse<\/b>\u00a0products instead of throwing plastic away.<\/li>\n
  • Recycle<\/b>\u00a0items rather than disposing of plastic that hurts the environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    While it is well known plastic pollution exists, there is a lack of awareness about the problem\u2019s severity, and optimistic understanding about being part of the solution. Plastic Oceans\u2019 goal is to make successful problem solvers out of children by using positive messaging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
