As part of the GECCO Real Nappy Campaign aimed at the Early Years sector, a workshop was held for Tops Day Nursery Managers at the company’s HQ in Southbourne on 14th May, ensuring they are fully informed on the use and care of real nappies.

The training day followed a successful pilot in April involving 10 Tops nursery staff with young babies who were each given a ‘Real Nappy Kit’ in a hamper, including re-usable bamboo nappies, a wet bag (for transporting wet/soiled nappies), nappy liners and boosters.

On arrival each of the 30 Nursery Managers were presented with their own hamper of goodies to become familiar with. Two local mums from the Wimborne ‘War on Waste’ group – who run their own Real Nappy Campaign – attended to give a presentation, talk through the hampers and to answer any questions. Hampers were then taken back to the nurseries, meaning managers are now fully equipped to take the ‘Real Nappy’ message to parents, and to encourage them to at least trial making the change from disposable to cloth.

GECCO have also designed a training workshop which will be delivered to staff and parents in the nurseries to support the change; there are plans to make real nappy training available to others working in early years provision.
