BAMBOO toothbrushes

Millions of plastic toothbrushes end up in landfill every day and this will only get worse with population due to rise from 7 billion to 9 billion in the next few years, so there is now a move away from using plastic unless we need it to last forever.

Bamboo is the world’s fastest naturally renewing resource which is also inherently anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. The soft bristles are BPA-free, 100% biodegradable and teeth can be cleaned effectively without damaging enamel.

They are more expensive than plastic toothbrushes and the brushes don’t last as long – but then we don’t want them to because being able to throw them onto the compost heap is great, and very sustainable. Be aware that some bamboo toothbrushes have bristles made of boar hair (we avoid them as they’re not compatible with any vegans nor Muslims) and some have 10% nylon bristles or all nylon bristles which aren’t compostable.

To replace an entire nursery’s toothbrush stock may require investment, but you can buy single bamboo toothbrushes for under £5 online.
